Nebahat S. Ercan was born in 1949 in the village of Sarıalan/Kastamonu in the Türkiye’s Black Sea region.
After attending the Teachers’ Institute in Gönen, she graduated from the Hasanoğlan Teachers’ College in Ankara in 1968 and took up her first post in a village school on the Black Sea in August.
After marrying in 1971, she followed her husband to Hamburg, where she worked as a teacher again from 1978 to 1994.
In addition to her activities for various cultural and social associations, she continues campaigning for education and upbringing as part of the Turkish Teachers’ Association Hamburg (Tö-der) and the Federation of Turkish Teachers in Germany (ATÖF).
